Gifts for Your Feet This Holiday Season
posted: Dec. 28, 2015.
As the holidays approach we start to think of what we’re going to get for others. Of course, it’s important not to forget ourselves in all of the festivities. While you’re braving malls, dealing with traffic, and trying to find those hard-to-get final gifts remember to treat yourself, and since you’ll be putting your feet through some serious punishment as you get your holiday errands done make sure to do something that will make them happy too.
New Shoes
If you’ve been out and about and noticing your boots or shoes are pinching or forcing your toes into odd positions, that’s not a good sign. Stop by the shoe store and pick up something that will let you keep moving while not harming your feet. Pick something with a closed heel, good support, and that fits right the first time you put it on and you’ll be ready to head back out for Boxing Day deals as well. It’s okay to pick up some more fashionable shoes for holiday parties but sensible is best when you’re on a mission.
Custom Orthotics
Orthotics can relieve a lot of problems, such as pain or discomfort, and may help with abnormal walking patterns. If you have issues that make staying on your feet for long periods difficult or have significant pain in your ankles, thighs, or lower back, orthotics might be right for you. They can solve a number of other problems which is why you’ll want to talk to someone who can build you custom orthotics like a podiatrist. The over-the-counter versions are simply not as effective.
A Trip to the Podiatrist
After all that walking around you may start to notice issues you hadn’t already – or problems you knew you had are now starting to flare up. Don’t just suffer – take a trip to your podiatrist and see what they might be able to do to help. They’ll be able to help you get through the holidays and even if minimally invasive surgery is required you will be back on your feet in a short time.
The holidays are a time for fun, friends, and family. It’s also a time of a seemingly endless list of things to do that can be exhausting for your feet. So grab some gifts for them and they’ll take care of you. If you have any foot issues or are interested in custom orthotics Sheldon H. Nadal D.P.M. can help. Contact him at his Toronto clinic today.
