Footwear Trends for Autumn

As we’re now deep in the fall season you might want to start thinking about updating your look to match the new styles coming out.  It’s an interesting season for footwear as we switch back and forth between fashion forward shoes and sleek and stylish boots.  Here are a few of the major trends showing up this year.

Contrast

Different colours and textures working in contrast are making a big push this season.  Blue with orange accents or patent leather with cotton fronts are coming into fashion.  The key is to take two subdued colours that highlight one another to create a restrained but elegant statement.

Patchwork

Contrast taken to another level.  Instead of accents or ornamentation different leathers are arranged to give a modern art look to footwear.  Snakeskin triangles beside suede shapes and all in different but complimentary colours.

Metallic Sheen

Shininess is back in.  That means metallic accents made of real metal or shine coated fabric and leather.  Anything that reflects light and draws the eye is a good thing.  Many of the styles, in fact, are reminiscent of art deco.  The skyline of 1930s Chicago writ small on a pair of pumps.

High Boots

Boots are getting higher this year too.  That means both the heel and the top which is back to knee-height.  Knee-highs have always been high-class and cool even from their equestrian beginnings and this new crop, so to speak, looks great.

 Mary Janes

An oldie is back with a vengeance.  Round and broad toed, with a buckle, and low heels – they’re the shoe named after a 1900s comic strip character – and they’re in season this fall.  Mary Janes now come in a huge range of colours and styles to comfortably fit in any lady’s shoe collection.

Fall shoe fashion is looking better than ever.  As always, it’s smart to find to shoes that fit properly so you don’t end up with any lingering issues.  If you do end up with foot issues contact Sheldon H. Nadal D.P.M. at his Toronto podiatry clinic today.
