Will Bunion Surgery In The Spring Get My Feet Summer Ready?

If you are living with a bunion, it’s hard to feel confident during summer sandal season when you have a large boney protrusion around your big toe joint. You may be asking yourself, “Will bunion surgery in the spring get my feet summer ready?” Many people spend time making sure that their feet are well groomed so that they look their best during this time of year and a bunion not only doesn’t look attractive, but it can also be uncomfortable if it rubs up against part of the sandal. Summer is supposed to be a time for feeling comfortable and taking life a bit easier and you aren’t going to be able to enjoy it if you are constantly thinking about your aching foot (or feet, if you have more than one bunion).

How Bunion Surgery is Performed

Toronto podiatrist Sheldon Nadal, D.P.M. uses minimally invasive techniques when performing bunion surgery. He has over 30 years of clinical experience and uses local anesthetic, so that patients can have the surgery performed in the comfort of his office.

With the use of specialized surgical instruments, he is able to perform the surgery using very small incisions in the skin. As a result, there is less soft tissue trauma than with other surgical techniques for this type of procedure. His patients experience very little pain and swelling and can resume their normal activities sooner compared to those who have undergone traditional bunion surgery.

Wearing a cast or using crutches after surgery is usually not necessary. Instead, a removable velcro cast boot will keep the foot immobile as it heals. This process generally takes a matter of a few weeks, but can vary depending on the patient and the complexity of the deformity.
