The Foot Problems Minimally Invasive Surgery Can Fix

A number of foot and ankle concerns can be treated without surgery, but in some cases, surgery is recommended for our patients. Some common issues that minimally invasive surgery can fix include:

  • Bunions
  • Hammertoes
  • Heel spurs
  • Ingrown toenails
  • Metatarsal

Minimally Invasive Surgery: A Definition

When we talk about a “minimally invasive” surgical procedure, we mean a type of surgery that is performed either with a very small incision or, in some cases, with no incision at all. The procedure is performed in a way that causes either little or no trauma to our patients using endoscopes, laparoscopes or lasers.

The benefit to our patients is that minimally invasive surgery can be performed with local anesthetics. There is less pain and bleeding, and scarring is minimal. Our patients’ recovery time is shorter than with a standard procedure as well.

If Surgery is Part of your Treatment Plan

You will have the opportunity to ask questions and consider the matter carefully before you are scheduled for minimally invasive surgery. We’ll explain the procedure to you so that you’ll know what to expect on the day of the procedure and during your recovery.

Surgery is never the first treatment option considered, but when other options have been tried or are not considered appropriate for a particular patient, it is an option. Each situation is unique, and needs to be evaluated independently.

As an experienced podiatrist, Sheldon H. Nadal, D.P.M. can diagnose and treat your foot and ankle concerns. Contact him today to make an appointment for your personal consultation.
