Laser Treatments: What Foot Problems Can and Cannot Be Treated

Laser treatments have been used to treat foot problems for a number of years. Rather than taking anti-inflammatory medications, which can cause stomach upset and cause issues with the heart and blood pressure, or resorting to cortisone injections, which can be painful in themselves and affect the connective tissue, laser therapy can be a better alternative for many patients.

Sheldon H. Nadal D.P.M. has offered laser treatments in his Toronto podiatry office for a number of years. This type of therapy may be combined with other treatment options, such as chiropractic adjustments, physical therapy, electrotherapy, massage, and soft tissue mobilization,.

Foot Problems that Can be Treated with Laser Treatments

For patients who continue to experience pain after their foot health concern was expected to have been resolved, laser treatments may be the next step to controlling their pain. This treatment approach has been used to treat patients with the following foot health concerns:

            •           Achilles tendinitis

            •           Arch pain

            •           Arthritis

            •           Burns

            •           Bursitis (painful condition that affects the fluid-filled sacs that cushion the bones, tendons and muscles near the joints; in the feet can affect the base of the big toe)

            •           Diabetic Foot Ulcers

            •           Diabetic Neuropathy (nerve damage that affects diabetes patients)

            •           Heel pain

            •           Ligament Sprains

            •           Metatarsalgia (inflammation of the ball of the foot)

            •           Morton’s Neuroma (painful condition affecting the ball of the foot)

            •           Osteoarthritis (referred to as “wear and tear” arthritis, occurs when the protective cartilage on the bones wears down over time)

            •           Periostitis (pain in the front of the lower leg caused by repetitive activity)

            •           Plantar fasciitis (heel pain caused by inflammation of tissue that connects heel bone to the toes)

            •           Repetitive Stress Injuries

            •           Sports Injuries

Foot Conditions that Cannot be Treated with Laser Treatments

Therapeutic laser treatments are used to treat patients who are experiencing pain that has not been controlled by other therapies. If an injury has been diagnosed and is healing well with other treatment methods, then laser therapy is not likely to be considered.

If you are experiencing foot pain, there are effective treatments available. Contact Sheldon H. Nadal D.P.M. to schedule an appointment and get a recommended treatment plan, which may include laser treatments.
