Toronto podiatrist attends Ontario Podiatric Medical Association Conference to gain new knowledge

On September 19th to the 22nd 2013, I attended the annual Ontario Podiatric Medical Association Conference held in Toronto.

It is always a pleasure for me to spend time with my colleagues in a learning atmosphere. The lectures were quite interesting and included topics such as the use of Lasers to treat foot pain, surgical treatments for peripheral neuropathy, Fungal Nail Laser Treatment of Onychomycosis or Toenail fungus and surgical sedation.

Some of the latest technology for the treatment of foot problems was also on display, including lasers for the treatment of thick toenails due to fungus, radial wave units for the treatment of Heel Spur Pain, and Plantar Fasciitis and Achilles tendinitis and various pain relieving modalities. I purchased a portable, wearable, ultrasound device which, according to the manufacturer, can aid in soft tissue healing after surgery and relieve aches and pains in the foot and leg.

In addition, my good friend, Dr. Richard Quint, flew in from Tucson Arizona to attend the seminar. We have been friends since we met in Cleveland in 1975, when we were studying podiatric medicine. On Saturday night we had dinner at la Société restaurant on Bloor Street with our friend, Yasha, whom we met in Acapulco in 1984. We were joined by Yasha’s wife, Aviva, my friend, Marsha, and her friend, Risa. We had a lovely evening.

The next conference I will be attending will be held in Nashville in two weeks. I will learn more about how social media, such as blogging, can be used to educate patients on how podiatrists can help them with foot problems.

One week later, I will be flying to Rome, Italy, where I will have the honor of lecturing on Minimally Invasive Bunion Surgery to a worldwide gathering of podiatrists and orthopedic surgeons. I will blog on my trip to Rome, and the conference, when I return.

Until then, if you suffer from any of the above-mentioned foot problems such as bunions, heel pain due to plantar fasciitis, toenail fungus or other problems with your feet, please contact my Toronto podiatry office at 416-486-9917 and my friendly staff will be happy to schedule a private consultation for you.
