Taking Care of Feet This Summer

 

Summer is the perfect time to show off your toes, but it is also important to take care of them so you will have no problems flaunting them confidently! The summer heat can make feet dry and rough, with skin peeling off due to bad weather conditions. Here are some helpful tips to take care of your feet during this season:

 

Wear sunscreen.

It is important to slather sunscreen on your body and on your feet, too! During the summer, we often forget to protect our feet from the sun. You have to make sure that you protect your feet and to check them for sun damage when you perform regular self-exams.

 

Moisturize your feet.

The skin on our feet needs moisture, just like the rest of our body. The use of foot cream regularly at night helps keep feet soft and prevents dryness. Moisturizing your feet should be made a part of your regular foot routine.

Soak your feet.

After a long tiring day, your feet might feel swollen. To help bring the swelling down, you may soak your feet in a tub of water with ice for 15 minutes. After soaking your feet, pat them with a dry towel. This will give your feet a calming and easing sensation to the pain brought by the swelling.

 

Choose breathable footwear.

If you are prone to excessive sweating, it is best to choose shoes made of mesh fabrics for maximum breathability. Since the weather is naturally hotter during the summer, you have to choose the right type of footwear.

 

Buff off dead skin and calluses.

You can keep your feet looking healthy by gently buffing off dead skin and calluses. After taking a bath, or having a relaxing foot soak, you may use a pumice stone to remove calluses on your feet. Do not cut or shave corns, and do not pop blisters, too. Doing so might lead to infections.

 

Use shea butter.

Shea butter plays a major role in taking care of chapped feet. You may soak your feet in warm water for 10 to 15 minutes and cleanse them properly by scrubbing them properly with a pumice stone – this removes the dead skin and calluses. After rubbing, change the water and replace it with warm water and add one teaspoon of shea butter. Soak your feet again for 10 minutes. Afterwards, pat your feet dry with a towel. It would be best to apply a little amount of shea butter directly on your feet once dry to keep them smooth and moisturized.
